Your biggest fashion faux pas, or a regrettable style phase:

Oh, dear. Let’s start with bangs. No, actually, let’s just start with this photo. I’ll leave it at that.

Favorite Instagram account to follow:
Verena
I follow so many cute animal accounts that my best friend once threatened to stage an Instavention. A few of my favorites: Marc Jacobs’ Bull Terrier @NevilleJacobs and his best friend @choochoocharlies, an adorably well-behaved French Bulldog; @toastmeetsworld, a doe-eyed rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with the world’s most ridiculous tongue; @ifitwags, for two model-esque and incredibly photogenic German Short-Haired Pointers; @jermzlee, for a super smart pug and a flawless use of emojis; and (shameless plug alert!) @harryonaleash, for the exercise-hating exploits of my rescue Frenchie, Harry.

What do you love most about your work?

The team. There is no friendlier, funnier, goofier crew of super stylish women than the crew at Lucky. Also, there is always SO. MUCH. FOOD.

One piece of advice you would give your 18 year old self:
Verena
Write more. And pitch pieces! I always assumed I was never good enough to get published, and I wish someone had told me that you can’t get published if you don’t pitch stories. It’s the one piece of advice I give aspiring writers now—write constantly, pitch constantly (if efficiently and thoughtfully!).

Your go-to power outfit:
Verena
A great pair of jeans—maybe my dark blue, high-waisted skinnies from Frame or light wash, vintage Levi’s 505s cuffed up above the ankles—Loeffler Randall Tamsin Pumps, a white v-neck tee from Madewell, and my slightly-too-small black Alexander Wang blazer—all topped with as much vintage gold jewelry (an arm full of watches and over-sized button earrings) and lots of red lipstick.

The beauty product found in your bag at all times:
Verena
Bright lipstick, preferably red. Currently in the rotation: MAC Relentlessly Red and Lady Danger, NARS Heatwave, and Sisley Sheer Papaya, a soft, summery coral.

You decompress each day by:
Verena
Walking my two French Bulldogs, then reading in bed. Because I spend so much time online, I try very hard not to look at my phone for at least an hour before I go to sleep. I’d say I’m successful 27% of the time. But it’s the thought that counts!

The pair of jeans you will never grow tired of:
Verena
I can’t answer this, mostly because I love jeans so much. I did a long-overdue closet cleanout about a month ago, and I am absolutely mortified to admit that between the recesses of my closet and the deepest depths of my drawers, I had no less than 32 pairs of jeans. 32 pairs of jeans! But also: I swear I wear them all!

The trend you hope never goes out of style:
Verena
At this point, I don’t think there are many trends you truly can’t wear once they’re “out”. It’s all about styling—and how good you feel in something. Personally, I’ll never stop wearing lots of big statement jewelry. My style is pretty casual and super tomboy-ish, so bright and flashy accent jewelry helps me dress up when all I want to wear is jeans, a tee, and a pair of Converse.

Your most quirky characteristic:
Verena
I make a lot of noises when I eat—mmmms and ahhhhhs, and so on. It’s something I only recently noticed and it’s completely out of my control.
