What do you love most about being a photographer:
Kristen
There are so many attractions that have drawn me to land photography as a full time career, but ultimately the desire to stop motion and freeze time is something I’ve become addicted to. I’ve found myself chasing the first and last light of day all in hopes to create a frame that can evoke emotion.

Did you always know you wanted to have a career in photography:
Kristen
So not necessarily. What I did know, was that I loved the arts, but never considered photography to be something that I would study in school. I actually started out as a painting major and then was involved in a serious accident my sophomore year. My right hand was injured so holding a brush wasn't easy, but oddly enough holding a camera was entirely doable. Im thankful for the accident for endless reasons—one of them being it led me to look into photography as a career. At the time, I had no foresight to see that this “trial” was soon to be something so shaping for my future career. You just never know!

What has been your biggest accomplishment as a photographer:

This month has been particularly exciting as I shot a four-page spread for Vogue Mexico featuring Whitney Wolfe—who is one of my favorite humans to photograph. So double win!

Describe a typical day at work:
Kristen
No two days are ever the same, but my favorite work days are when I get a full studio day and can plan to sit and catch up on emails/edits. My day always starts off with a strong coffee, lunch at my desk and then more coffee! Oh and my Spotify playlists are a vital essential to the work days.

What would we currently find in your camera bag:
Kristen
You would find both film and digital camera bodies. My Contax645 (film) and 5D Mark iii (digital). My 600 Speedlight and several different lenses. Non camera related things: gum, film wrappers, rubber bands and my favorite lip glosses… BUT emphasis on the film wrappers. They are EVERYWHERE in my bag.

What’s the most exciting thing in your life right now:
Kristen
I'm currently shooting a 200 recipe cookbook, for a foodie author I have admired and followed ever since day one! The project is still in the early stages, so I cant release any names but soon enough. Also putting final touches on my equine series print shop. Lots happening around here! I need more hours in the day.

Your #1 tip for taking the perfect Instagram shot:
Kristen
First and foremost don't overthink it! From there, be sure you find the best light and when taking a picture always find the light source around you and FACE IT. So many people ruin great shots because of the backlighting and the iPhone cannot properly expose for this. Trust me, do it! :)

Taking my pup for a walk around town lake! Her happiness to be outside is contagious. Or if I'm in Hico, Texas I decompress in the field with my two horses. I love golden hour with my animals.

A secret talent we should know about:
Kristen
I"m not sure if this is a talent I should be proud of, BUT I can out eat anyone at a table. I grew up with two brothers and I'm typically still cleaning off their plates. I mean that’s a skill of some sort, right?
