Camila Alves McConaughey is a dedicated mother, fashion and lifestyle expert, and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Brazil to a family of farmers, she grew up with a strong connection to the taste and aroma of food made using only fresh-picked ingredients. Camila moved to the U.S. in her teens to pursue a career in fashion, later establishing herself as a well-known lifestyle expert, sharing her personal insights and tips on the Today show, Rachael Ray, The Chew, and The Talk. In 2015, she launched the lifestyle and community website Women of Today focusing on food, family, fashion, health, beauty and crafts. With three kids of her own and countless nights surrounded by bowls of purees and a messy kitchen, Camila thought there must be a simpler way to provide fresh, unprocessed, and homemade food for babies and kids. Camila’s vision to change the way kids eat is realized through Yummy Spoonfuls®—providing delicious, nutritious food using simple manufacturing methods. You’re the creator and founder of Women of Today, an online community to help support and unite females all over the world. Tell us, what inspired you to start this organization:
Camila
I started Women Of Today a few years ago, when I was travelling all over the world, I noticed how present and strong the sense of community between women was in so many other countries—women sharing what they have learned, what they like, and what has worked for them in different areas of their life with each other. I came back to the United States and realized that there wasn’t really a platform for women to share with each other so the site came to life and the community started to build! We also wanted to give women experiences they otherwise may not have access to with our giveaways through the site.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting Women of Today:
Camila
Technology has always been a big challenge for me. It seems like whenever I touch something electronic, it breaks right away! Working on building the site to show everything I wanted to be on there while showcasing my vision and aesthetic in such a small space was a big challenge for me, but one that I learned so much from.

What does the future hold for Women of Today:
Camila
I get asked this question all the time. The beautiful thing about Women of Today is that it is a community-based site. This is not a site just for me to tell women what I like and what I do, it’s a site where we, as women, can teach, learn, share and grow together. The reality of the site is that wherever the community takes us, we will follow and continue to grow this safe space. We always ask the community to send us their ideas and requests and we always take them into consideration. That being said, we are working on a project that has been highly requested by the community and will be sharing in September. Stay tuned!

Who has had the biggest impact on your career:
Camila
My family, of course! I love turning to my kids for advice on solving work dilemmas. In addition to my family, I learned so much from watching and learning from two amazing women in my life whom I believe have found a way to truly have it all. They both have beautiful marriages, amazing kids, and fulfilling careers without ever losing sight of what is most important: family. And I am trying just that!

One piece of advice you would give your 18 year-old-self:
Camila
I had so many ideas at a young age, but always focused on bringing other peoples’ ideas to life. I would say to my 18 year-old-self, “Start your passion early and create that business early because, once you have kids, it gets so much harder. Believe in your ideas and be very aware of who you bring along for the journey.”

Secret to balancing your personal and work life:
Camila
I’m still figuring this out for myself! Keeping your priorities straight is the most important thing!! The way I keep myself organized and sane is with a huge calendar in my kitchen. Everyone gets a different color and it helps me to keep track of where everyone needs to be at what time and what days. My number one priority is my family so, even if life gets crazy, I always make sure to set aside time to be with them and am fully present when I am with them.

Share your biggest guilty pleasure:
Camila
Food wise, my biggest guilty pleasure is either French fries or chips with salsa and guacamole. I can’t leave a table when they’re in front of me!

Your motto in life:
Camila
Always do what’s good and right, even when others don’t agree. Never hurt someone on purpose, even if you have a reason to. Kindness and charity is a must. I am part of mother nature, mother nature is part of me. And, through everything, always stay passionate. God is always present.

On the weekends, we’ll find you wearing:
Camila
My white loose Thai pants I bought at a street market in Thailand with a linen button down top. It’s basically my uniform in the Texas heat! The only time I’m not wearing that is when I dress up for church.

Favorite piece of clothing in your closet:
Camila
As of right now, my favorite pieces are my loose white Thai pants mentioned above, my white fuzzy Alo jacket, and my Frame stretchy flare jeans.
