What made you make the switch from influencer to designer?
Anine
It all happened very organically. I was home cleaning out my closet and decided to put 100 pieces up for sale on my blog. Those pieces sold out in one hour, and that’s when the idea sparked. I did another closet sale a few days later, and the same thing happened. Once we launched the brand and began to grow as a business, focusing on ANINE BING 100% was the natural choice to make.

What inspires your design process?
Anine
The ANINE BING style is very effortless. When I design, I make sure that all the pieces go very well together so that you can mix and match them with each other.

Can you walk us through a typical workday?
Anine
I spend a lot of time with the design team and the creative team to talk about content and what our online presence should look like. I’m very specific about the look and feel of our e-commerce experience, so I am very involved in that. I sit in on executive meetings to talk about bigger decisions for the business. I’m on set for photoshoots, and when I’m not in the office, I’m traveling for store openings.

What trends do you predict will catch on for 2020?
Anine
I don’t really follow trends. I believe in creating a classic uniform that centers on the building blocks of your wardrobe, adding in seasonal pieces that feel right. Within my own designs for 2020, I am going a little cleaner, focusing a bit more on the cuts and structure. Less is more for next year.

What’s your go-to power outfit?
Anine
Lately, I’ve been living in the Mika shirt from our ANINE BING Classics Collection. A classic white shirt is such a timeless and effortless wardrobe staple for me. It’s easy to pair it with denim and boots or trousers and heels.

What’s the most treasured item in your closet?
Anine
The first leather jacket I ever designed. A leather jacket has always been a staple for me, but I treasure this one because it reminds me of where we started and helps give perspective on where we are going.

Who are your fashion icons?
Anine
I have always been a huge fan of Jane Birkin. I also look to musicians since I love the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle.

What does your beauty routine look like?
Anine
I try to keep my daily beauty routine quick and simple. It takes three to five minutes each day, and I use the same eight products. I start with primer and moisturizer all over my face, use concealer for areas where I want a bit more coverage, then add bronzing powder and cream blush. I typically stick with a shimmery, beige eyeshadow. Then I finish with mascara and whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day. I think skincare and self-care are very important steps in any beauty routine as well. I drink at least two liters of water each day and try to stick to a routine with sleep. I try to get eight hours every night—it works wonders for your skin.

What nail color is currently on your hands and feet?
Anine
Nude. I was into red and black nails for years. But at the moment, nude polish is my go-to.

What’s next for Anine Bing?
Anine
Just to continue evolving, growing, and opening more stores. It is the most exciting journey, and I cannot wait to continue growing this brand and opening more stores all over the world.
